Types of Lighting for Your Kitchen | Malden MA | Derry NH | Halco Kitchen & Bath
Last week we posted about lighting, and how essential it is now that it’s getting dark so early. There are so many styles, shapes and purposes when it comes to lights and in this post we will further explain those features.
We all know that the purpose of light is to provide the ability to see in darkness. But, there are different types of light used for different circumstances.
First, we have accent lighting.
Accent light is used to draw attention and add drama. Many times it is used to highlight a painting on the wall or brick layout on the front side of your home. You can find accent lighting in the form of recessed lights or track lights, both of which are commonly seen displayed in a kitchen. If your kitchen features glass cabinets showcasing glassware or figurines, accent can be installed inside the cabinet to bring attention to those pieces.
Second, there is task lighting.
This type of lighting is self-explanatory, it aides you in performing tasks such as cooking, reading and grooming. These light fixtures provide a significant amount of bright light to allow optimal vision for such tasks. In the kitchen task can be seen as under cabinet lights or track lighting.
Third, there is ambient lighting.
Ambient lighting gives mood and overall light to a room. Instead of being used for one specific area, like task, it covers a larger area with softer light. Ambient light will be seen mostly in living rooms, hallways and kitchens. It will come in the form of chandeliers, pendants and sconces. Ambient is also provided by natural window light.
Although the list of lights goes on, these are the three basic and most common lights seen. When combined together in a room, you’ll be provided necessary, useful and attractive lighting all throughout your home.
