Current First-Time Buyers Wish List | Malden MA | Derry NH | Halco Kitchen & Bath
As Millennials enter the home-buying market, emerging home trends will become more apparent. Younger, first-time buyers will increase the demand for smaller more affordable homes. Design will be critical in successfully using every inch of space and getting the most out of it.
40% of the top features mentioned by home builders have to do with energy efficiency: low-e windows, energy star rated appliances and windows and programmable thermostats. The top desired features included a master bedroom walk-in closet and a separate laundry room. 55% of Millennials responded that they wouldn’t purchase a home without a separate laundry room. Also high on the priority list? Storage. Linen closets, walk-in pantries and garage storage were prominently mentioned. Entering the minimalist era, there is a higher demand for “less is more” and everything should have a place out of sight.
Home technology is growing and becoming more prevalent, even in the kitchen. “Social kitchens” incorporate a range of digital functions and will increasingly be built for digital networks. More about “social kitchens” For many, the kitchen is where electronic devices live. Growing design trend is finding charging stations being tucked into a cabinet or drawer that’s fitted with docks and electrical outlets.
Lastly, Millennials seek less expensive, low-maintenance choices like a brightly painted front door, strings of garden lights, and landscaping that needs less watering and mowing. Living in a busy era, there will be less of a desire to maintain property than ever before.
